Poorly Thought Out Moments In Promotion
| Papa John’s 23-cent pizzas |
Today’s winner of this occasionally prestigious award goes to Papa John’s, who caused altercations and near-riots in Cleveland with a 23-cent Pizza Promotion.
The trouble started after a Washington, D.C. franchise made T-shirts calling Lebron James (No. 23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers) a “crybaby”. Naturally, certain people felt offended, so the company fired back with a 23-cent pizza offer all across Northeast Ohio.
And the hungry masses responded. Some of them were not so peaceful.
Police said 600 people waited in line in Euclid, where one customer was arrested for public intoxication, one for disorderly conduct and one for resisting.
Some customers waited as long as 2 ½ hours for the cheap pizza. At the University Heights Papa John’s, the wait was up to five hours.
At that location, police said a few people tried to jump the line, but they were pulled out and those in line started cheering. A Newsnet5.com viewer e-mailed and said a fight broke out at the Springfield Township location on Waterloo Road in Summit County.Springfield police said a verbal altercation took place between two people in line. No one was hurt and no arrests were made, police said.
If you thought the lines were violent now, just wait until all that pizza is eaten. The toilets will be clogged for months, and waiting five hours in line for food will seem like a dream.
