Silicon Valley Suburbanites Soon To Be Reduced To Cannibalism
As food prices begin to soar around the world, the ones that go without are the ones hurt most.
No, I’m not talking about Haitians eating dirt or Mexicans rioting over flour tortillas or the old lady eating dog food to get by. I’m talking about the neediest: suburbanites who can’t get their imported, bio-degradable, eco-freindly, designer, bulk bags of rice. The sad, sad story from The New York Sun:
[Costco] in the heart of Silicon Valley usually sells four or five varieties of rice to a clientele largely of Asian immigrants, but only about half a pallet of Indian-grown Basmati rice was left in stock. A 20-pound bag was selling for $15.99.
Someone call Quincy Jones and… oh, say, 30 or 40 music stars to come out and do a “We Are The World” reunion. That should get more rice on those shelves. See if they’ll throw in an industrial size jar of mayonnaise, too.
